What is an Irlen Screening?
Why continue to suffer without an answer? Find out whether the symptoms you or a loved one have are Irlen Syndrome and get help for it; the first step is a screening. The simple screening process takes about 2 hours. It can be done in our Flatbush Brooklyn office or at your greater Metropolitan location, for an additional charge.
If Irlen Syndrome is present, the correct combination of color filter overlays is determined to stop or minimize symptoms . The overlays are often the only thing needed to have relief from symptoms. If Irlen lenses are desired, the overlays are used for a minimum of 4 weeks prior to having a diagnostic test for lens colors, to allow the brain to calm down. This gives the most accurate color diagnosis for lenses, avoiding the cost and time of re-testing and re-tinting which can otherwise happen. Below are the steps in a screening. To schedule a screening see Make an Appointment. |
History & QuestionsIn the first part of the screening, we discuss why the client came for a screening and prior history. Then there are questions about focus, reading difficulty and discomfort.
|
Visual TasksThen there are a variety of simple visual tasks to see if symptoms occur and how severe they are.
|
Determining OverlaysIf the results of the visual tasks and history indicate Irlen Syndrome, the third part of the screening determines which color or combination of color overlays over the page stops or improves the symptoms. The color overlays are taken home to use, helping the brain to achieve and maintain a more calm state. After 6-8 weeks of use, the better brain state will ensure more accurate, stable results if a diagnosis of Irlen spectral color lenses is desired. |
